On 11 September 2001, a chain of events would result in Canadian soldiers being sent into the dangerous and desolate terrain of Afghanistan.

On that day, two hijacked aircraft deliberately crashed into the World Trade Centre towers located in New York City while a third plane hit the Pentagon in Washington resulting in the combined death of 3,000 souls.

These horrific acts of terrorism galvanized the free world into a military action.  Canada's role would last 13 years and result in the ultimate sacrifice of 158 gallant soldiers and 3 civilians.

The international community would have to battle terrorism head on in an effort to provide a safe and secure environment in which the people of Afghanistan would be given the opportunity to embrace education and experience democracy to enable future generations to grow, prosper and learn to think for themselves.

This is the story of what our Canadian soldiers did - and how they did it!
